Welcome to Deloitte University, or DU as we call it. DU is a world-class leadership and learning center owned by Deloitte and designed for their own employees, clients, and guests.
Deloitte is a company that provides professional services of tax, audit, consulting and financial advisory to other companies, nearly 90% of the Fortune 500 companies use Deloitte’s services. Deloitte is a global company with about 85,000 employees in the US and almost 180,000 globally. While our DU in Westlake was the first location, there are now several other Deloitte University locations around the world including India, Canada, France, Mexico, and Singapore.
DU is a private hotel for mainly Deloitte employees to visit for learning programs. Deloitte also offers learning programs for some of their clients and some specific communities, but the majority of the people who come to DU are Deloitte professionals.
DU Westlake opened in October 2011 and represented an investment of $300 million.
DU is 5 stories tall with 800 hotel rooms and 100,000 square feet of meeting space. We have three food outlets, a Starbucks, fitness center, walking trails and much more.
We are sitting on 225 acres of land. More than 500,000 pounds of sheet metal, 150,000 pounds of concrete, 34 miles of plumbing, 17 miles of hydroponic pipe, and 26 miles of Ethernet cable are part of DU.
DU was built with sustainability in mind. From efficient building maintenance systems, reclaimed wood beams, low flow bathroom fixtures, and more, DU demonstrates one of Deloitte’s core values focused on sustainability.
At DU, our intention is to always look “like new.” Given that we host 60,000+ guests per year, that’s a lot of wear and tear on a building.
This past year we refreshed the Lobby and Bistro areas. The first major renovation of these spaces since opening in 2011.
The new lighter colors are more aligned to the designs of our new buildings that are currently under construction.
Lobby Patio
All of the cement in the terraces is reused from an abandoned highway in Grand Prairie.
Market
This is our main food outlet for our guests. We serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Our restaurant has 425 seats inside, 150 seats outside, 3 private dining rooms and 6 different buffet/marketplace stations whose cuisine changes daily.
Health is very important for our guests. A nutritional and dietary information card is displayed with every menu item on the buffet. This shows all nutritional and allergy information.
Market Patio and Herb Garden
The herb garden consists of different herbs and peppers, it is changed out seasonally. The Chefs and bartenders use the garden for ingredients for recipes and some beverages on occasion as well.
The pond is self-sustaining. It collects water from the roof and surrounding hillside when it rains, and then is used for our irrigation. We also have 2 wells for the times we don’t see a lot of rain like this past summer.
All the plants we have are native to Texas to celebrate the local ecology and beauty of this land.
Beyond the pond over the hill is an additional 118 acres of land that was purchased in 2021.
This is where the expansion of DU is currently in progress. We will be adding 600 rooms, trails, sports fields, more food outlets, meeting space and classrooms. We broke ground about a year ago and have an expected opening in late 2025.
Board Room
Our Board Room area is a complete Executive suite and the recent remodel incorporated many cutting edge technology enhancements.
The suite includes meeting rooms, office spaces and of course the giant Board Room. With rest rooms, a pantry and server located directly above The Market kitchen, it’s a fully functional space
DFit
DFit is closed for tours today due to our upcoming expansion.
Guest Rooms
Take the elevator to the second floor to see a guest room.
We have four floors of guest rooms – 800 in total. All guest rooms are the same. They have a bed, desk, shower (no tub) and other basic amenities. There is also a full complement of ADA equipped rooms as well.
Each guest floor has four break areas, 16 in total. These areas offer coffee, drinks, and snacks. It is like a small self-serve café. We do not offer room service, so this is where they go if they get hungry at night.
Bistro 375
Bistro 375 is a Starbucks during the day, and wine bar at night. It also provides grab and go service for guests looking for a quick sandwich or snack.
Fun Fact – the Bistro goes through about 9,000 pounds of espresso beans a year!
Cyber Center
All Deloitte professionals are issued a laptop and cell phone. When visiting DU, this is their help desk for any issues.
The Library
This is a newly remodeled space that was created for guests to hang out and relax, or small events.
Amphitheater
This is closed today for a group that is in house.
This is a lecture style meeting room full of technology. It holds 170 people. We hold our Benchmark all employee meetings in here on a monthly basis.
Westlake Hall
This is our smaller ballroom. This is about 5,000 square feet and can be divided into three rooms.
Guest Services
Guest Services is our business center, shipping office, and retail store for our guests.
Barry Salzberg Ballroom
This 20,000 square foot room can be divided into four rooms. This is the largest ballroom space. We use this for our large events such as opening sessions. This is where our Benchmark annual holiday party will take place.
Barry Salzberg was a CEO of Deloitte from 2006-2014. He was the inspiration for DU and helped make it happen.
Classrooms
We have a total of 32 classrooms. For the most part, each classroom is the same. There are three screens and projectors, powered tables, and each room can connect to remote presenters or learners as well.
Barn
The Barn is where the picnic is happening.
This is our nighttime food outlet and evening networking space. After a long day of meetings and learning, this is where people go to let their hair down and enjoy some awesome Texas BBQ and a game of corn hole.
